The founding partners of circular economy startup Pianos Recycled are Mike Hendry, leading piano tuner in Melbourne Australia, Sandra Klepetko, sustainability scientist, and Peter Humphreys, innovation and transformation adviser and coach. Distressed by the fact that unwanted pianos end up in landfill they established Pianos Recycled with a world-first end-to-end business model that aims to develop a collaborative ecosystem where local artisans, industry and citizens/customers are engaged to provide solutions to the unwanted piano problem. In doing this, respect for the instrument and centuries-old craft skills embodied in it are restored, the environment benefits, new markets for bespoke, quality hand-made goods emerge, and awareness of and attitudes toward the merit of a circular economy take hold. Plus the story and life of an unwanted piano continues.
